HI Everyone. Please read your chapter on Animal Rights and write a brief reflection on your position. Should animals be treated similar to humans. What do you think of testing and experimenting with animals? What about vegetarianism? Explain the way you feel the way you feel.
Next topic is the environment. I'll be posting again soon. See you next week!!!

Animal Rights is something that should be taken a little bit more seriously by us. Even if some people don't see it the animals have rights and they should be respected for what they are. Animals should be given care because they are a great asset to the nature and without nature humans as we know it wouldn't exist. Animals are the ones that provide us with food, shelter, companionship, and someetimes even guard us. People test on animals as if they didn't feel any pain or anything and that is something that some people need to look into. Animals do feel pain adn just because they are not able to defend themselves because of communication doesn't give us the right to torture them with tests that sometime lead to their deaths. This is like if you were to take a person that is not able to communicate and just because the person can't communicate and he is not able to defend himself or herself then we can treat this person just like we treat animals. And of course now that would be torture because he is a human being, but yet when is to an animal then is totally fine.
Vegetarianism is really something that is to each person. I have no opinion on it. A person can decide what he or she wants to eat and nobody can oppose to that. I'm not a vegetarian, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to see a vegetarian as a freak.
Animal Rights is just like in the movie that we watched last week. Turn over the roles on man and animal.
Would you like to be treated like an animal?
That's how I see it.
There is no question in my mind that animals should be treated with respect. Just like in nature, each animal has their role and this is still the same between our relationship with animals. This however, does not change my mind on animal rights issues like medical testing. It is necessary, and we would not have the extraordinary capabilities that we have achieved in medicine if we had not. Would people prefer that we do all of this testing on humans? Or not at all? A short example of the diseases that animal rights has brought us a cure, procedure, or vaccine is Anthrax, Hepatitis A and B, measles, Polio. It has brought us medicines like insulin and pain killers. It also gives us transplants and tests devices like artificial hearts. Animals should be respected when this is done, and no act against them should ever be unnecessary. But it is scientific and efficient.
Vegetarianism is a personal choice for people, and I respect those who do. I am not vegetarian, and I don't want to ever be told that I am evil because so. And I understand that not all vegetarians or vegans are this way, but the loud blaring ones are the people who ruin the cause.
Something that I consider very important is animal rights, and so does the government. That is why the Federal Animal Welfare Act is in place. To stop those horrible videos we've seen of people beating livestock. What concerns me more then animal rights on a day-to-day basis are extreme animal rights activists, like PETA. the animal rights movement has been usurped by radicals who believe that animals are more important than humans in every way. They are willing to get violent to promote their cause. They use horrific images and play on our emotions to sway us to their beliefs. They are not above giving propaganda to our youth. They do not look at the animal rights issue in a logical manner, as the subject should.
I do think that animals feel pain, and that it is always truly horrific when I see videos of animals being horribly mistreated. Respect should be given to them. But with things like animal testing, it is to prolong our own species. Which should always be very important to you and I.
Animal rights was not something I really put too much thought into until about nine months ago. although my opinion on the subject has always remained the same, I am faced the the matter every day! I have a very good friend who just before i met her found the peta website and now even though she would never admit it, she would put an animals life over the life of a human any day. you talk about a person getting killed in a car crash, that's no big deal, but if a squirrel gets ran over, it almost brings her to tears. I'm not vegetarian and never will be.I have nothing against vegetarians, but I hate being called a murderer because i want to eat a hamburger. It has always been my belief that animals were for our use and enjoyment. Don't get me wrong I'm very against animal cruelty, but i think there is a line between animal cruelty and just plain ridiculous. I don't think an animal should ever be killed just for pleasure. As far as animal testing goes, there is kind a gray area for me. I believe some animal testing goes way too far and does enter the animal cruelty territory, but other's i feel are kind of necessary. I wish there was another way than to test on animals but until we find that way, how are we going to run these tests? Will we start testing on humans? I am totally against unnecessary violence to animals, but i don't think any animal's life should be put over a human's.
I'm going to be honest...
Animal rights are not something I really care about. I'm not really a big fan of any animals besides polar bears. I have had pets that I loved but I don't think animals should be treated as humans.
I think people who spend thousands of dollars on surgery or something for a pet are crazy. It's a dog. Get a new one. Animals are not humans. An animal cannot give me advice or take care of me. Animals are not the equals of humans.
I don't think that animals should be tortured or mistreated unless something productive comes out of it. I'm not going to stop using a makeup product I like or anything because it was tested on animals. I am all for animal testing. I would rather an animal get hurt by something defective than a human.
I think being a vegetarian is dumb. If you want to be one go for it but I could never do it. Animals taste good. I believe that animals are here for human use, wether that use is companionship, entertainment, food, or whatever.
Although, I do feel bad when I see commercials or shows where animals are being mistreated, as soon as I turn the tv off I forget about it and I don't even care. I don't come into contact with it so I don't really let it bother me.
Basically I think there are a lot more worthy causes to be spending time, money, energy, and other resources on.
I honestly don't very too strongly on each side on this subject. I just think a reasonable amount of respect towards animals should be given and that includes not hunting them in the wild for example. But then on the other hand we have been hunting and killing animals for our own survival since our existence so we have to keep that in mind as well. I think however we have moved past that and need to as our own species learn to survive without killing animals somehow. Will this ever happen? NO. Probably likely it never will unless there are no animals left. It's i believe in our instincts to hunt and gather food and will be a tough habit for us to kick.
Vegetarianism is just a habit but not a bad one at that because it's a healthy way of living. Meats and protein however are an essential part of our diet but not absolutely neccessary. However long term vegetarianism sometimes has caused some malnutrition for some too.If you were to argue that we are eating living things then plants are living too so does that also come into play? I think overall limited rights be given to animals in certain cases and hopefullly in the future we can figure out a way to survive without them.
I dont really care about animal rights. I dont like animals at all. And I think it makes no sense to be a vegetarian, I like meat.... its delicious! But thats just ne, to each his own.
There are religions that believe that every life is sacred. Then there are religions that believe that every life is sacred - including every living thing.
Is it moral to perpetuate a system that encourages human beings to treat animals in manners which we do not condone treating other humans? It is true that animals feel pain, it is also true that they tend to be sapient - aware, even if not intelligent.
At the same time, it is also not logical for all humans to cease the consumption of meat products. Our bodies are designed in such a way that requires the iron and other nutrients in animal flesh in order to function and grow, and as part of a healthy diet. If, as a human being, you can justify the lifestyle of a vegetarian, and still manage to support your life functions, then I completely support them.
At the same time, humans for thousands of years have been forced not only to eat meat, but never had the option to cleanly choose your preprocessed meat from the supermarket.
Here's a thought; if you still had to butcher your own pigs and cows, livestock you had lovingly raised and fed and suffered alongside of through the long winters and difficult births, would you be eager to inflict harm on them?
As a matter of fact, there are often better ways to accomplish our ends than animal testing, and in my opinion, the kind of technological, psychological, and sociological pollution brought about by such careless habits are self-defeating.
So while I am not a vegetarian or a vegan, nor would I enjoy being one. But there is still admiration for those who are willing to suffer to uphold their ideals.
I’m against animal testing and experimenting but I also understand that animals are there for us to live as they are, like every living thing, are a part of the food chain. I think that PITA is a joke. I’m a firm believer in the 6th verse of Genesis and believe that animals are blessing, but that they are made for use but at the same time are to be treated with respect.
Vegans have their reasons for choosing their diets I don’t really care what they do, but personally I was raised and taught that protein was an important part of our diet.
Animal Rights are meant to set limits to human behavior. Animals are defenseless and completely in the power of a man. A person violating animals right should be prosecuted. Humans relate to animals in different way. A person who loves animals may keep them as pets, while those who simply like the taste will hunt them for food. Animals should be given the chance or legal right to demonstrate their natural behavior, dependent on their habitat. All things should be taken it consideration such as a swimming pool is not enough for a whale to demonstrate who they truly are, and land animals should not be surrounded by water. Humans and animals have different aspects, yet both of which are issues dealing with the well being.
Our government is there to protect the basic rights of citizens (although this day in age, it may not seem like it). The basis of our rights is freedom and equality. We should grant, or even draw a line for humans who violate animals. Our choices in food affect animals. We all could become vegetarians, but all things must be considered; health and our economic situation amongst Americans today are just a couple to name.
I come from a family of hunters and farmers. I was taught that you need animals to live. At a young age, I saw how a cow from a pasture turned in to my dinner a week or so later. It is my belief that animals are put on this for us to eat. On the other hand, I also have an extreme vegetarian in my family as well. She is so against animals for food or testing that she has a book that she goes shopping with to tell her what products are animal free. I feel that is a bit much to try and become animal free. She is also one of those people that will spend thousand dollars for her dog to live. Don’t get me wrong I love my dogs. But I do not know if I would waste money for my dog to live. I would be saddened by the lost of that dog but, there are other animals out there that would love to have a home. I have even taken one of those rescued dogs into my life and they have been some of my best pets. So it is all a matter of opinion as to what you feel about the animals in the world.

I am a firm believer in animal rights. First off they were here first, correct? Yes. I would be the first to say that hunting is ok as long as the human went into the woods with nothing but there hands, head and feet. The funny part about that is the deer is going to kick your ass. Humans are weak we are one of the most fragile species on earth. Snakes can kill us with one bite... There are jellyfish the size of thumbtacs that will kill us without us even knowing it. We are a strong society because we can make guns and things to defend ourselves. Without a weapon we are sad and the animals of the world are far superoir. So yes I believe in animal rights because without or defense weapons we would be asking the animals for our rights. Yes foundations like PETA take some views to the extreme... take this weekends kentucky derby for example. A month ago a horse at the race before the preakness had to be killed nearly on the track becuase the jockey raced the horse harder than he should of. You think it is good to kill a horse on live tv? This is what PETA is trying to stop. Not many have the views that I do. I watched a report the other day about a woman jogging in some national park that was followed by a deer, then the deer rolled up and whooped her ass. Yes that was no good for the woman but I bet that one day that deer was eating with his or her family and watched a human kill one of its family members from a hundred yards away... How incredibly weak. The deer held onto its memory and saw a human and attacked. She did not deserve it butthe deer understood that somebody the was shaped like her did. I do believe in eating meat (oh my gosh i kill animals!) but keep in mind I go to the nearest grocery store and purchase my beef that has been breed outside of society for consuming purposes. Vegetarians may not wish to eat "real" meat but they need protien and other nutrients or else they will develop serious health issues. Ron White said it best, "have you ever seen a healthy looking vegetarian? No you haven't." Animals do have rights, but since we have the weapons we decide there rights huh? I'll end this rant with my favorite t-shirt... it has a bullseye with a human in it... the deer is holding the gun! Awesome... and yeah we dont have gills so stay out of the water, water species are so far more advanced in nature than us, is not even close.

There's a reason people farm and eat animals. That's what they're there for, are you going to tell a lion "Hey Mr. Lion, don't eat that (blank) he has rights too" NO, you won't because thats a natural phenomenon. animals eat animals, that's how the game works. There's this thing called the food chain, have you heard of it?
Human beings are omnivores, meaning that yes technically speaking, we're supposed to eat meat! As well as various fruits and vegetables.
Do i think animals should be treated similarly to human beings? Do you think they'd notice? i highly doubt it, "Hey Mr. Dolphin you coming over on sunday to watch the game? we're going to have nachos!" Do you think these animals are intelligent enough to recognize their status? It's unlikely to say the least.
Testing on animals? why not? Now i understand the fact that some if not most methods of animal testing are cruel and painful to the animals, but what the hell else are we going to test on? If anyone can answer this without sounding like a complete retard, go ahead.
All i can say about 90% of these issues is, SHUT THE FUCK UP.
Vegetarianism is an entirely different issue. Every culture in the world has their own form of diet. Now I've heard alot of story's about how vegetarian's are generally in poor health. This is not not because they dont eat certain things like meat and whatever. These people get sick because of their dramatic and sudden diet changes that new vegetarians often experience, they wake up one day and decide that "Oh I'm not going to eat meat any more because i saw a PETA video and it opened my eyes. Again SHUT THE FUCK UP! Anyone who is raised on a certain diet for example people who are raised eating meat and vegetables, are going to be healthiest at least from a biologically adjusted stand point are going to remain relatively healthy. If at 18 years old someone decides to rebel against their parents and become a vegetarian hippy, majoring in guitar at college, obviously their diet change is goignt o affect their overall health. I find it funny that people claim vegetarianism to be unhealthy, when the only unhealthy thing happened is a sudden shift in diet. The same goes for Poeple converting to veganism. You're goignto get sick, thats what happens the human body becomes accustomed to what you eat and when you change that, it reacts accordingly. The same thing would happen if someone raised vegetarian or vegan suddenly added meat to their diets. It has more to do with your body adjusting than it has to do with not getting vitamin's from meat. Most people that make these changes are too short sighted to continue supplementing their diets with the same vitamin's that their bodies are used to.
Why do i feel this way? who knows. maybe i just hate people who do things just for the sake of doing them. Follow nature, eat animal's, stick to your in born dietary needs. stop being idiots.

I feel that animals should be treated with respect and reverence. However, I don’t feel that they should be raised above humans. I just really think that something that gives up its life so that you may live should be treated with kindness and respect and not abused and manufactured in a factory setting.
I also feel that people who use animals to fill the holes in their lives are wrong and doing the pet the love so much a huge disservice. A pet is no substitute for a child. I think it is wrong to enslave an animal in order for a person not to feel lonely or have something to come home to. I think that if you close your eyes to the fact that thousands of animals are murdered every day because they are languishing in animal shelters and not being adopted because people HAVE to have pure-bred animals, you should be euthanized in a shelter.
life feeds on life. we must kill in order to live. this does not make life a product for consumption. it makes it sacred. the sacrifice made by living being for the sake of your nourishment is not to be taken lightly. we choose what to eat by what we "feel like", not necessity or effort. affording animals respect, concern and compassion is our responsibility as the apex species on this planet. testing our fashion accessories by causing other beings to suffer is a deplorable and embarrassing symptom of a product obsessed culture. seriously, if somebody came up to you on the street and told you "hey, if you skin this rabbit and spray chemicals on it, i'll give you some free deodorant" you probably wouldn't do it. but out of sight out of mind. if you are one of those blindly-chewing-through-whatever kind of people, theres no way to make you care. but try. the least you can do is give that animal you are eating the briefest moment of sincere thanks.
This is kind of a hard topic to discuss because our life revolves around animals. Some of us need them for food, protection, entertainment and so on. We couldn’t treat them like humans. But I don’t think we should test on animals or use them in experiments. I do think that’s wrong but I also think that most animals have served a good purpose by testing and experiments. I think the testing has to be used at the scientist or professors digression. Vegetarianism is the practice of a diet that excludes all animal, including poultry, game, fish, shellfish or crustacea, and slaughter by-products. The reasons for choosing vegetarianism may be related to morality, religion, culture, ethics, aesthetics, environment, society, economy, politics, taste, or health. Me personally I couldn’t be a vegetarian or vegan because most of those products they don’t eat is in my daily diet. I do eat eggs and bacon for breakfast and I love fish cookouts and barbeques.

I really love animals and I do not agree with the mistreatment of animals at all. No I’m not a vegetarian but I believe that animals are put here to help with human survival. There are some animals that are meant to be eaten and there are others for our enjoyment like cats and dogs. People who receive enjoyment by torturing animals are completely disgusting! Animal experimenting isn’t the greatest thing in the world but what else would we use.
i believe the matter this film is trying to go after is very important. Even though animals dont speak or can express their inner feelings to us humans there is no reason to for no purpose go and slash them and leave them laying around. I believe this is a topic that is very controversial, because words can be interpreted the wrong way.

THIS IS LISA COX!
This movie was insane. When the move first started I had no idea that it would lead to the ending that it had. Every character in the movie had such a defined personality. I was really expecting the movie to have a happy ending but it was quite the opposite. I loved how every character had an extreme personality. So extreme that some of them went off the deep end and killed some people. Overall the movie was pretty.......... interesting.
