Blade Runner

Write a few paragraphs describing a future that illustrates the possible results of human cloning and or stem cell research. If you would like, you can combine both topics. You create an optimistic or pessimistic view. Try to include moral dilema if you are able. Use descriptive language. Use imagination. Write in a way that the reader is able to visualize your world.

Extra credit if you can put a link to an image that you create to illustrate this world, or if you would like.. you can make a short film and post on youtube. If so, provide a link with your post.

Customization. It started out harmless with mp3 players, car paint jobs, once technology improved people grew more tempted to explore. Curiosities rose. The situation began when a child genius from Japan discovered how to completely read DNA, and this shook the world. Hospitals were then able to read the DNA of unborn children, and they were able to anticipate future medical problems. But from time to time, doctors get fired and they retain their knowledge and sometimes this lead them towards back alley practices. Parents found out about these practices, and were then able to fully customize children. Suddenly there were much more smart or beautiful people walking around.
There was no absence of religion during this time, and when word got out that such practices were happening it caused conflict. Furious debate and hysteria ensued, while no real change was actually done. People, the government, and the media fueled both sides of the argument. While in previous years the country had a self-imposed division, the new line was even more obvious.
While the conflict worsened, breakthroughs were still able to get done even after budget cuts. Scientists perfected cloning organs. The medical benefits were tremendous, and the strict guidelines and limited availability no longer were a large issue. The conflict worsened, and while doctors had the technological means to perform literal miracles, people were appalled by their practices. This drove more practitioners to explore more taboo areas, if they were actually told they were trying to be god they might as well.
So secretly scientists figured out how to clone a full adult, since they could already clone every organ. This was when the situation truly became out of hand. Everything about the clone could be limited or enhanced, and they could be used for a great variety of things and their limited experience of life quickly made them vulnerable. They were used for a variety of tasks, menial work, assistants, pleasure, and murderers. Certain agencies were able to get the top clones to use for their bloody tasks and lonely people were able to have beautiful companionship for themselves.
The conflict worsened more so, and people of power had much more booming conflicts. Major topics arose. Were they human? What rights do they have? What threat do they pose? Only one thing is certain, conflict only makes the issue its about, worse.

The future to me seems very confusing. There is technology invading almost every aspect of our lives to the point where we don't even know what's going to be real or not in the distant future. In the movie it's almost as if Harrison Ford finally just accepts that even a cloned and manufactured human being can be real enough to him to make him have an emotional attachment to her. What will end up happening i think is that there will be alot of extremely attractive people walking around and still many of them will be insecure. Many people today who go under the knife tend to be more insecure than those who don't. Cloning and surgery in my opinion should mainly be used to fix a life threatening defect or problem that interferes with everyday life not just so your girlfriends will want to squeeze them and gasp in awe while saying "i want mine done too". One part in the movie i see as being feasable and that's us in the enxt 50 years being a multi-planet race possibly mars being terraformed. With each generation we undergo faster changes and we are forced to adapt quickly.

goldfish forget every few seconds. we are inclined to forget but struggle against it, clinging. we stack up experiences and define our lives. we spend our recreational time imagining being someone else and then beg for more time. to get it right. perhaps the goldfish had it right all along.

JACOB.

The day is May 15, 2020. Technology has rose over the years and new miraculous research about cures of viruses that were deadly. People lived longer lives and diseases that were fatal were just like a mere cold. However, in the midst of a World War III people have lost all hope towards the government and all its tyranny. Even the people were involved in this war, killing soldiers and civilians because they thought it was not worth to hear what anybody said.

However, once a war broke through and soldiers started dying a loss of interest towards joining the army started to bloom. To not lose the battle United States ordered that a human will be cloned and the clones would join in the war.

And thus a story began…

The first clone was successful in 2022 however the clones needed to grow as a normal human would and not until 18 years of age, they were prepared to go to battle. This was because whenever a person was cloned he would have to go through the process of being born just like a normal human being. However, these clones were taken out quickly of the women that were helping create them, and establishing them in clone facilities where all they learned was war and how to fight in it.

A young lady who was 22 decided that she wanted to help with the war and therefore went to a cloning facility and asked if she could help by getting pregnant with a clone. She was infused in March and by the time she got to the 9th month period of her pregnancy she started having second thoughts and the way she felt was as if a real human was inside of her. She then took the chance and fled the country while being pregnant and left to Canada.

A boy was born she named him Jacob. Jacob grew like a normal human being with his mother and stepfather in Virginia. When he reached the age of 18 he was watching the news and saw the destruction caused by the war. However, the war was now over and the government didn’t know what to do with the surviving clones. There were twenty thousand clones that survived the war. The government then decided to order that since these clones did not know anything more than just war to be sentenced to death.

A huge mob outside of the capitol formed declaring that what the government planned to do was murder and that the clones deserved to live a normal life just like everyone else. But as time passed just a big as the mob against it another mob appeared and stated clones did not have a soul nor they were humans; they only knew how to fight and this could be a menace to the society…

Jacob watched the news constantly about this dilemma and he came to the conclusion that he also thinks that clones could be a menace to society and therefore he agreed with the people in favor of killing the clones and soon enough he found himself in the picket lines supporting this.

The government didn’t know how to decide over country that was divided so much. Jacob returns that night to his house and finds no one there. He looks everywhere and Jacob had a tendency of being curious. He looked around all over his house and he usually finds his father in the studio of the house and as he walked in and saw that no one was around he noticed a file in his stepfather’s desk. His curiousness won over and he decided to step in closer to see what the file was about. He noticed that his name was in the folder and this even brought more curiosity in him and when he open the file a shocking piece of evidence turn his life all around. He found the files of the cloning facility on which he was created. His parents walk through the door and without a word they knew that he had found out the truth. He fled the home and went towards Congress. Evading security he infiltrates the Capitol and walks towards the center of the Congress Room. The congressmen looked at the young man as he walked without being held by security. He stood up in the middle of the room and said over the microphone: “I am a clone”.

Congress was shocked over what this person said and at first they didn’t believed it. Scientists ran tests on him and confirmed what the young man was saying.

He was given the chance to talk to the press and he stated the following: “I was one who believed that clones should be eliminated because they were not people and they could be a menace to society. However, I have learned a secret that changed the way that I view the world. I am myself a clone. If I could live a normal live because of a risk that my mother took when this world was in war, then I believe that clones should have a chance of having the same lifestyle that I had”.
He walked down the podium and outside of capitol. Silence dominated the outskirts of the Capitol and in a few moments a declaration for the clones was made for them to be released so that they can learn and have a normal life just like a human being.

This is supposed to be like a news story that shows what kind of things I think would happen if we genetically engineered clones.

Presidential candidate Bob Smith (#228SJ7) has cancelled his campaign trip to Florida, which was supposed to occur sometime this week. His campaign manager, Sally Sampson, made the announcement during a press conference to address the many violent threats Candidate Smith has been receiving. Sampson has long been an advocate of the "genetically designed's" rights. We hit the streets to ask Tampa about how they would feel having a "GD" as president.

Tom Thomas-33- "It's just not natural. How do we know he's not trying to start another clone uprising like the one in 23?"

Amanda Snyder-22- "Why shouldn't we have a GD as President? This is practically racism. Just because humans created them does not mean that they are not also human. People used to think the same thing about female presidents and see how wrong they turned out to be."

The time is 3000 A.D. and evolution of humanity has risen to great heights. Air craft’s that have been scaled down to be affordable as personal vehicles. Using magnets and artificial solar powered machines. As well as space travel through interdementional portals and space rifts. Above all humans have not only been able to access what most have said would never be able to be touched, but also would be able to restore that which has existed throughout history. Religion is a thing of the past and is looked at as no more than a story. Vatican City has been made a historical site, as well as several other different religions such as the Cult of Flying Spaghetti Monster. People have found out the truth about Jesus and Buddha and though they keep their teachings to themselves as the idea of a church/cult have been outlawed. Though it is not frowned upon to make small, quiet gatherings, religion has been proven to be no more than a tool to control the masses of the human populous. With idea of the religions paganism and Christianity to be the main cause of war. Since there has been a major assessment of these major organizations the world of science is free to condone practices. Which have benefited humanity greatly in its entirety, at the same time became its worst enemy. What was once called moral is now replaced with “What benefits humanity.”
With beliefs being proven nonexistence and science to be made as the only logic humanity has cerium to, science has a made leaps and bounds in neurological medicines. Thanks to stem cell research, scientist have been able to not only cure aids, but are now able to successfully grow back lost arms and legs, as well fight off skin eating diseases. Rare diseases, like the harlequin disease ( skin is hard and sheds constantly, having the mouth stretched wide open with round red clown like lips) have been able to eliminated due to “sex in the lab,” where the genetic code can be altered within giant test tubes. Cloning is no longer an issue with the idea of playing “God” since the idea of religion has been disproven.
However there are still though's who make endless efforts to maintain control diplomatically. Planets and space colonies war with each other over resources. Eventually man at war created bio weapons of unstoppable measure. Virus's that can live in the air, water, and soil, jump to anything living, and infect it only to spread more and more. The disease being too quick to be treated, no cure or hope to be made. There was however a slight ray of hope to create a superhuman computer with the cloning process. Ultimately leading to the creation what would have been consider being a human “God” that could create antidotes to counter act the bio-chemical weapon. This creation was called “Angel,” based off of the old biblical belief of a cestial servant that could care out any mission that its human creator gave it. With this new discovery, human kind was able to make adjustments to their own bodies as well. Creating a new line of artificial human.
Ultimately however, the invention for capacity of evolutionary process will prove that genetics is just a passing fad in the real scope of things, which side has more control over the resources. And Humans will reentered the world that had the idea of religion versus faith had left off.

To go to a political extreme, let this be a reality. Put it in your mind, cloning has been made legal by system we so call our government. Ask yourself, did you vote for George W. Bush, did you vote twice, would you vote a third time if possible? Think of 9/11, do you think Osama Bin Laden is behind the terrorist acts upon our America? Have you read the facts, which are believed by some to be myths, about the relationship between the Bush family and the Bin Laden family? Imagine one man/woman had the power to destroy the world; most likely a democrat who is tired of this effed up democracy, and a true Bush hater. If that one person had such a power, it would be to clone these two incompetents. Thousands have lost their lives at the hands of these two; mostly AMERICANS at the hand of OUR leader, as well as the leader of Al Queda. Picture the world, our world, your world with Bush's and Bin Laden's. Would a democracy be formed amongst the two or would it be total chaos?

I don’t really see the problem with human cloning in the future because I believe it could be very helpful in helping cure some of our viruses. I believe that God created man and man created science and man created science to help humans survive the changing planet. I also believe that the world is going through drastic changes because man is adapting too fast so we have to sort of clean up after ourselves in order to survive.

We are in the future, so far that we don’t even realize the year. There is know longer a planet earth because humans have advanced so far that we have out lived our habitat and had to destroy it. There are now about 1.5 billion colonies living in space ships built 500 years before the abolishment of our planet. 900,000 of the humans are clones who are in charge of making sure the non-clone humans stay safe by doing matenance on the ships and helping with daily family life. The clones are also in charge of searching for a new planet for humans to adapt on because space life isn’t meant for humans. The colonies are broken up in to countries just like on earth there is still American and so on the only difference is there isn’t an ocean to divide the countries only stars. Humans have adapted pretty good to their artificial world but there is know way to tell how long the worlds will last that’s why clone research is very important to the survival of the human race. No the clones aren’t disposable, they are people too, they were enhanced to help with the habitat crises so humans could find a new home before it is too late.

In a world where cloning is a reality people could possibly live forever. For example, you are in your 80’s and your body is dying from old age. What do you do? In the old days you would just die, but in the fabulous future you could have a new body cloned to your exact specifications. It would be pretty amazing to have your 80 years of experience stuck into a brand spanking new body.
The only down side to this is that only the rich would be able to afford such luxury. Even if everyone could afford the technology, would life still be as valuable? Does something crazy happen because people stop dying? Who knows the consequences of immortality?
