Art Project on Recent Topics
Research one of the recent topics: Euthanasia or Animal Rights. Or, if you would like you can choose to Research the philosophy of Nietzsche. Make an art project in reaction to one of these topics.. and perhaps the discussions that we have had in class. Write a short reflection here describing your project. These will be presented at the beginning of class next time. Have a good Thanksgiving!!

For my art project, I created an hourglass which contains various good and bad events that happen in a persons life. This is to illustrate Nietzsche's "Heaviest Weight."
I thought this was a very interesting thing to think about that I had never thought of before. I think that I would be perfectly okay with repeating my life from birth to this point!

I have chosen euthanasia for my project. I wanted to show the utter sense of solitude one must feel to make the decision to want death. When the law fails you, friends love you to much to loose you, and your body is incapable. You turn towards myth and faith. You beg Death to take you and you pray to God to end it all while cursing him for his absence.
I demonstrated this in the form of a political cartoonist. One frame with a satyrical look into that moment where one risks loosing their faith.

I love animals, though I can understand how animal testing can be necessary. If it is for the sake of humans and to save lives then it becomes very necessary. Just do not abuse the animals!

I have chosen Euthanasia as my subject.
I am not specifying whether I am against Euthanasia or if accept it. For the sake of this project and the way I feel about death I am staying bias to both sides of the topic.
For the visual part of this project I wanted to show a photograph that portrays that death is a very personal matter and must be done alone. Death is in the eyes of the beholder and if one feels that they no longer want to live it can not be understood by all because it is in ones self-interest only. On the contrary if one feels like they should live even through misery or pain they must feel like they still have a purpose in this world. Either way, naturally or self inflicted it is still personal.
In most cases you come into this world alone and you must leave alone. To make the decision on whether you will live or take your own life is done alone, one on one with the reflection you see in the mirror. This is why I have chosen a photograph of a single man which depicts an emphasis on self.

i chose to focus on animal rights. so i did a piece about all organisms being classified as earthlings. I used photoshop to make it.
I have put together a collage of photos of animals with their mouths open. This interprets that although humans eat animals, animals eat other animals also.
I have done some aart work depicting the Michael Vick incident. I think that animal rights is a very important subject that must be addressed.

This is my artwork i created using photo and type to show that all the things animals can feel and do. the main message is that animals have feeling too just like humans do and they deserve to be treaded fairly as inhabitants of this earth just like us.
For my project I created an abstract Typography poster dealing with euthanasia. The many words and symbols have hidden meanings relating to the difficulty of the choice this issue represents among the community. On one hand some may think it is wrong to 'kill' an individual but at the same time who are we to deny them the release from pain and suffering that only continues to hurt them. Using typography is a good way to say things that are controversial and stay away from graphic images. The use of words and letters will usually intrigue people enough to read it once even if they don't agree with a particular side. Once the eyes of one have rested upon the poster, its job is done. Delicate issues like euthanasia are hard to bring up for people and sometimes stir powerful and sometimes irrational emotions. Talking about these topics must be done carefully and sometimes creatively. Typography is a challenging and fun way to break the ice on topics like this.
For this project, I created a cartoon. In this cartoon, a person is sitting in a chair with a blood pressure cuff around his neck, inflating it himself. The cuff is fully inflated, thus suffocating the man. On the cuff, the writing reads: "Kevorkian Scarf." The caption under the cartoon reads, "As long as our hands are clean, go right ahead."
